How To Use Sage & Palo Santo

Sage and Palo Santo… We hear all about it and see people lighting it in their Instagram and Tic Tok videos but what the heck is it and what is it actually good for?

If you’ve ever been to the MaeMae Jewelry retail store in Atwater Village you’ll notice that it has a very distinct energy and smell. Energy we contribute lots to the good juju that surrounds you. Crystals, inspirational quotes, stones, baby buddhas, dope dainty jewelry feels and overall good happy people loving on you. Another big contributing factor is the sage and palo santo that we burn on a daily (multiple times a day) basis.

We typically burn sage in the morning when we’re opening the store. Why? The sage clears the energy in the air cleansing the bad juju that lingers. We wave the sage in the air like a wand and spread the smoke over doorways, windows, desks, displays and anywhere that feels stuffy or has heavy energy.

There isn’t any right or wrong way to burn the sage because honestly if you’re burning it it’s already doing things. The sage is a slow burn leaf and emits an earthy, grounding, mother earth aromatic into the air that stays for quite some time. Burn sage when you want to give your space a revitalizing energy or to uplift your mood. Tip: Use a candle to light your sage vs a lighter, it can take about 30 seconds so less lighter fluid is better ;-)

Now what about palo santo? We burn these babies all day everyday at the MaeMae store. In fact, we keep a tea light on with a palo santo stick on a holder right next to our cash register and every time someone makes a custom stone bracelet we palo santo the heck out of it before wrapping it up for you ;-).

Palo Santo is magical because it’s also an energy cleanser and helps with bringing back the positivity and good juju… It’s helpful to think of it like this: Sage CLEARS out the bad juju and palo santo BRINGS in the good juju.

If you need more reasons to try it, the smell of palo santo is oh soooooo yummy… There’s something about it’s richness that makes you know something awesome is happening. The smell also serves as an anchor to bring you back to your calm, your peace and your equilibrium.
