Be kind, it’s something we’re taught to be at a young age. To be generous, giving and understanding to others. When I became a part of the MaeMae world this year, I was encouraged to “be kind to myself.” The first few times I heard it, I couldn’t make sense of what it even meant. My entire life I was told that I needed to be selfless and to always to put others first. Slowly, I started to prioritize self-care, live in the moment and not beat myself up for things I could no longer change. Little by little, I noticed that the affirmations on our MaeMae pieces were coming to life. Just Breathe made way for Let It go, which eventually became Acceptance. I’ve still got a long way to go, but I’m currently working through Confidence and Fall In Love with Yourself. I think of the person I was just a few months ago, how empty and lost I felt. My life changed when I decided be kind to myself. It opened the door to so much soul searching and introspection.
